Garlic, chili & honey… it’s not just bread, it’s chemistry.
Tools to use for this recipe:
Sharp Bread Knife – To cut deep slits into the bread without slicing all the way through. Essential for pull-apart breads.
Baking Sheet – A flat tray to bake the bread evenly. Use one with a slight edge to catch any melting butter or cheese.
Parchment Paper – Keeps the baking tray clean and prevents sticking, especially with melted cheese and honey.
Measuring Spoons – For precise amounts of chili flakes, salt, honey, and herbs.
Oven Mitts – Safety first when removing the hot bread from the oven!
Silikon Spatula – To help spread the garlic butter.
Ingredients
1 whole loaf of bread (you can use any type – round, baguette-style, or rustic)
90 g unsalted butter, softened 150 g shredded cheese (any kind you like – mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, etc.)
1 whole head of garlic
1–2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp honey (plus extra for drizzling)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
½ tsp dried parsley
Garlic Butter Mixture:
In a bowl, mix:
90 g softened butter
The mashed roasted garlic
1 tsp honey
½ tsp salt
½ tsp chili flakes
½ tsp dried parsley
Instructions
For the Roasted Garlic:
Slice the top off a whole garlic bulb to expose the cloves.
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, chili flakes, and a bit of honey.
Wrap in foil and roast in the oven at 180 °C (350 °F) for 40 minutes, until soft and caramelized.
Once cooled slightly, squeeze the soft garlic cloves out of the skins and mash them.
Assembly:
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
Slice the bread in a criss-cross or into halves/chunks – but don’t cut all the way through.
Spread the garlic butter generously between the cuts or over the surface.
Stuff or sprinkle with shredded cheese. Optional: drizzle a little honey over the top before baking.
Bake for 12–18 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the bread edges are crispy.
If needed, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end for extra golden cheese.
Once out of the oven, drizzle with a bit more honey. Sprinkle with dried parsley and chili flakes to taste.
